Prioritizing the Mental Health of Our Students

The pandemic has taken its toll.

A prevailing challenge amongst teens today is their struggle with mental health, which develops for a variety of reasons. Students who suffer from these challenges often don’t know how to communicate their needs, resulting in a vicious cycle of negative feelings that may have long term impacts. Estimates have suggested that at least one half of students aged 12-17 have shown signs of mental illness and that 80% of them do not get the help that they need.

With the ongoing pandemic and the instability it has caused, more than ever it is imperative we prioritize the mental health and well-being of our youth.  It is important for adolescents to have routine and be connected to their peers; with the extended periods of isolation and remote learning they endured since spring of 2020, it’s no surprise their anxiety has skyrocketed. Many have fallen behind in their studies, lost their motivation in the process and are now finding it difficult to readjust to in-person learning.

This is why we are working diligently to provide all of our students with an all-encompassing approach to success. Our founder is a Certified Life Coach and with 17 years experience working with teens, she is an expert at assessing students, observing mental blocks and creating custom plans to deal with school-related stress and anxiety. Her goal is to help bolster confidence and resilience so her students are prepared to cope with both typical and unprecedented challenges.

At Study Buddy, it’s more than just doing homework and getting through the next assignment. We are mentors to our students and act as a close support system throughout the entire academic year. We believe mental health is at the foundation of all success - the happier and calmer our students are, the better they can study, focus and ace exams.

Stay tuned on the blog for our tips on how to improve mental health! We’ve got some great suggestions, including adjustments related to the pandemic.
